How are trophies awarded?
Trophies are awarded by age division. One trophy is
awarded for every 5 players in the division. For
example, in a 2-man division one trophy would be
awarded; in a 7-player division, two trophies would be
awarded; in a 14-player division, three trophies are
awarded; in a 20-player division, four trophies are
awarded; in a 21-player division, 5 trophies are
awarded.
How is your age division determined?
Your age on October 15, 2006 determines the division
in which you will compete for the entire season.
How many age divisions are there?
There are five boys divisions and four girls
divisions. These divisions are Boys 8-9, Boys 10-11,
Boys 12-13, Boys 14-15, Boys 16-18, Girls 8-9, Girls
10-11, Girls 12-14, and Girls 15-18.
What length golf course does each division play?
On a championship length golf course (overall length
greater than 6,800 yds.), each division will compete at
the following approximate yardages: Boys 16-18 6,800 yds.
Girls 15-18 5,900 yds. Boys 14-15 6,300 yds.
Girls 12-14 5,400 yds. Boys 12-13 5,900 yds.
Girls 10-11 5,400 yds. Boys 10-11
5,400 yds.
Girls 8-9 4,000 yds. Boys 8-9
4,000 yds.
May I compete in an older division; i.e., "play up in
age?"
"Playing up" in age is strongly discouraged and in
the vast majority of cases will not be allowed. While
many juniors may be able to compete effectively at the
longer course yardages, we believe that there is an
advantage to playing with your age group and learning
how to shoot low scores. If you are not completely
dominating your division, you are not ready to "play up"
in age.
What if I am the only player in my division?
If you are the only player in your division, you will
be contacted and given the opportunity to compete in
another division. Alternatively, you may compete as a
single or you will be allowed to withdraw. We are not
responsible for last-minute cancellations, but we will
do everything possible to prevent you from being a singleton against your wishes.
Are practice rounds included in the entry fee?
No. You must make your own arrangements with the
course. Tee times are required for practice rounds.
Please call the course in advance to arrange your
practice round.
How do I get directions to the course, hotel
information, etc?
This information is posted on the second page of the
tournament entry form which you download from our web site.
When and how will we receive our tee time?
Tee times will be posted on our web site after 7:00
p.m. on Tuesday prior to the event. If you do not have
Internet access, you may call us at 910-740-3542 after
7:00 p.m. on Tuesday or Wednesday for your tee time.
Will you honor special requests for tee times?
We will honor special requests if possible. Please
use this privilege sparingly. If you need special
consideration on Sunday, please tell us before the event
begins, preferably when you sign up.
Will I be required to pay for range balls?
One bag of range balls for warm-up is included each
day at no extra charge. Additional range balls must be
purchased through the golf course at their usual charge.
Whispering Woods Golf Club and Midland Country Club do not
have ranges on the premises; range balls are not included at
these events.
How early should I arrive at the course?
Allow yourself enough time to warm up prior to your
tee time. Please check in at the registration table at
least 30 minutes prior to your tee time.
Will I be called to the first tee?
As a general rule, NO. You should plan your warm-up
time so that you arrive at the first tee 5-10 minutes
prior to your tee time. Clocks with the official time
will be placed on the driving range and at the practice
green.
Do you have pace-of-play guidelines? What are they? Are
they enforced?
We have pace-of-play guidelines that change from
course to course. As a general rule, you are allowed 12
minutes to play a par 3, 14 minutes to play a par 4 and
16 minutes to play a par 5. Pace of play may be adjusted depending on
course difficulty and the distances from greens to the
following tees. Everyone is notified on the first tee
each day that they are expected to play within the
pace-of-play guidelines and warned of the penalty if
they do not adhere to these guidelines.
Are we allowed to ride carts during our round?
You may
be allowed to ride in certain circumstances as directed by
the tournament director or his designated assistant. If
your group must be ridden during the play of the hole in
order to catch up, the first ride constitutes a slow
play warning. The second ride will cost each group
member one shot and the third ride will cost everyone
two shots.
Do you ever play "Lift, clean and place?"
Yes, when course or weather conditions warrant it we
will play "Lift, clean and place." Generally this slows
down play, and we try to avoid it whenever possible.
What happens in the event that rain, lightning or
another weather condition causes a round to be cancelled?
We make every attempt to complete a tournament, but
sometimes the weather does not cooperate. When this
happens we complete as much as we can. Our stipulated
round is 9 holes for all players. If we are able to complete a
stipulated round then the results are official for the
day. One day completed constitutes a completed
tournament. Trophies will be awarded. There will be no
refund of entry fee should weather cause cancellation of
one round. If the golf course waives its daily fee there will be a dollar-for-dollar
credit against a future event
based on course charges. If we are unable to complete a
stipulated round on either day of the tournament, no
trophies will be awarded and all entry fees will be
refunded.
What are the requirements upon completion of the round?
When you complete your round, report to the
scorer's table immediately and turn in your scorecard.
Failure to do so in a timely manner will result in
disqualification. After turning in your scorecard,
please go to the scoreboard and make sure that your
score has been properly posted.
